Our Story
Harmony Florals is a recently launched venture for floral artistry based in the picturesque village of Woodhouse Eaves in Leicestershire. From my home-based studio, I work with the invaluable assistance of freelance florists, crafting original arrangements, with natural modern flair.
It all began with my attendance at an Ikebana workshop, a moment that resonated so deeply within me that I decided to make the courageous leap from my longstanding career in science and academia to pursue my passion for flowers, nature, design, and sustainability. The full story behind this decision is one for another day. I formalized my training at the Cambridge Flower School, where I acquired the foundational aspects of floristry and classical designs, marking the start of my professional floral odyssey. Since then, I've enthusiastically pursued more specialized national and international sustainable floristry courses, consistently growing my skills and expanding my floral horizons. I firmly believe that our industry can operate in a fully sustainable way, and I aspire for my work to be a testament to that belief.
Our Sustainability Commitment
At Harmony Florals, our commitment to sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. My deep understanding of the science of pollution and its effects on climate change and disturbance to natural habitats is a driving force behind my dedication to environmentally responsible floristry. Seasonal and Local Sourcing: We prioritise using seasonal, local, and British flowers for as long as the growing season allows us. We also encourage using dried flowers in some of our winter arrangements. Many English flowers are naturally attractive to pollinators. what indirectly encourages the proliferation of bee-friendly flora. This conscious choice significantly reduces the carbon footprint associated with long supply chains, promotes eco-flora and supports UK growers.
Thoughtful Foliage Sourcing: We take the same approach with our foliage, maximising the usage of seasonal varieties. In addition, we engage in foraging practices.
Fully Biodegradable Materials, No Floral Foam: Unlike many in the industry, we do not use traditional floral foam, which is non-biodegradable and harmful to the environment. Instead, we use biodegradable bases, moss, Agra wool and other eco-friendly mechanics, ensuring that even our design tools leave a minimal ecological footprint.
Eco-Friendly Packaging: Our commitment extends to the packaging we use. We opt for recyclable materials, reducing waste and promoting responsible disposal practices among our customers.
No Single-Use Plastic: We do not use single-use plastic and opt for eco-friendly alternatives where possible.
Green Web Hosting: We take pride in the fact that our website engine, GoDaddy, is one of the most environmentally conscious choices available on the market. GoDaddy's commitment to renewable energy and sustainable data centre practices means that our online presence has a significantly reduced carbon footprint.
